MOD Update including OMI and N17 SBUV/2 Data Now Available

The MERGED OZONE DATA SETS are monthly-mean zonal and gridded average products constructed by merging individual TOMS/OMI (total ozone) and SBUV/SBUV/2 (total and profile ozone) satellite data sets. An external calibration adjustment has been applied to each satellite data set in an effort to calibrate all the instruments to a common standard. Details of the external calibrations and construction of the final data sets are provided by following the links at the top of the page.

* The NOAA-16 and NOAA-17 data from the beginning of the record have been reprocessed using the best calibration information available through August 2007. Data processed after August 2007 use an extrapolated calibration that does not correct for solar activity variations, which can increase the uncertainty in daily profile data, but is less significant for broadly averaged total ozone data. The MOD data set will be updated as new calibrations become available (~yearly) but changes to total ozone are expected to be small.

New Section Data Set Modifications

Periodic updates will be made as new data become available, adding to and possibly changing ozone values at the end of the data set. Changes to existing data may occur as updates to particular data sets become available, and are averaged with the data previously included in the merged data set. These changes are tracked below.

Revision 04 Data Set

Aura-OMI TO3 total ozone, available starting in 2004, has been included in the MOD total ozone data set.
NOAA 17 SBUV/2 data, available starting in 2002, has been included in the MOD total and profile ozone data sets.
NOAA 16 SBUV/2 data includes through June 2007. Data after June not included due to advancing orbit drift.
EP TOMS data replaced with recent reprocessing to address cross-track bias and calibration issues. This update leads to small changes in the overall calibration.
Profile Data updated through August 2007. N16 SBUV/2 data updated and N17 SBUV/2 data added. No Adjustments Between Data Sets.
